Officer takes custody of Tilbrook Trophy and Red reigns supreme in the Bradshaw Shield

Published Mon 24 Oct 2016

Diving WA held its first competition on the newly refurbished dive tower at HBF Stadium over the weekend, with the Bradshaw Shield and Tilbrook Trophy.

It had been three to four months between competitions for many of the divers, with everyone only being back in the water for the last couple of weeks. Despite all of this the level of competition was high and a number of divers achieved personal best and qualifying scores.

The two highlight events of the weekend were the Tilbrook Trophy and Bradshaw Shield.

The Tilbrook Trophy, honouring Raelene (Tilbrook) Lyon who represented Australia at the Olympics is open to first year competitive divers, saw a strong field assembled with six divers vying for the title. Jemima Officer held her nerve and completed four well executed dives to take out this years event.

The Bradshaw Shield, one of Diving WA's most historic and favourite events on the calendar is a teams based event honouring Robyn Bradshaw, WA's first Olympic diving representative. Five teams were put together by the coaches and everyone got into the spirit representing their team colours. As was the case all weekend, a high level of diving was on display and the Red team of Ben Ward, Jasmine Barrett, Sophie Vassileff and Jade Rousseau came away victorious. Thish also made it back-to-back shields for Ben Ward, who was part of last years winning Blue Team.

The divers now have some time to hone their skills before the next event on the calendar, the Christmas Invitational on the 3rd and 4th December.

Everyone's attention now shifts towards the 2016 Diving WA Annual Awards, being held on Sunday 20th November at the Hotel Rendezvous Perth Scarborough. All members are encouraged to attend this years breakfast awards as we recognise our divers achievements in what has been a fantastic year, including the Diving WA Diver of the Year.
