Nikita Hains narrowly misses advancing to semifinal in Olympic Games debut
Published Thu 05 Aug 2021
Original Story: WAIS
WAIS diving graduate Nikita Hains had a mixed day on her Olympic debut missing advancing by just 15 points.
After a nervois start with a back 2½ somersaults 1½ twists that scored 43.20 points the 20-year-old improved over the next two sives with a 54 and 67.2 on a forward 3½ somersaults and armstand back double somersault 1½ Twists to sit 20th, just two spots from the semifinals after three dives.
A 44.80 on a reverse 2½ somersaults was a further set back before Hains finished with an inward 3½ somersaults that scored 60.80.
"I'm happy with how I clawed back and kept fighting and fought to the end," Hains said, "I'm just so excited that I even became an Olympian just now.
"It's so surreal, it's something that I've been dreaming of my whole life. For that to just happen, I can't even put it into words."
"I'm still really young so there is still plenty left in the tank."
