Level 1 Coaching Course

Diving WA is holding a Level 1 Coaching Course for anyone who is interested in becoming a Diving Coach.
The Course will be held at HBF Stadium (Dryland and dive pool) on Sunday 11th March 2018 and run by three time Olympian and current WAIS Coach Mathew Helm.
The course fee is $150 (inc. GST - covers course costs and DA administration fee).
Participants must be a minimum 16 years of age and must register as a member with Diving WA (Coach or Diver/Coach/Judge Member 2017/18).
On completion of this training course, the Level 1 diving coach will be able to:
- Coach basic diving skills through progressive skills and exercises
- Implement appropriate diving etiquette
- Provide safe training environment and have an understanding of their legal responsibilities
- Implement effective warm up and cool down sessions and develop diver flexibility and general athlete strength programs
- Integrate basic strength and conditioning exercises into training program
- Conduct well organised daily training sessions for beginner divers
- Coach principles of core stability and body alignment
- Coach springboard and platform take-offs
- Coach sequence of movement for springboard and platform approach
- Coach aerial positions – straight, tuck and pike
- Coach visual spotting
- Coach entries
- Coach five basic dives
- Safely use dry land equipment as training aid to coach basic diving techniques.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPANTS PRIOR TO THE COURSE:
Australian Sports Commission Community Coach General Principles (on-line course).
Candidates are required to enrol in the free Australian Sports Commission Community Coach General Principles on-line course and complete all activities and assessment tasks. Once the tasks have been successfully completed, candidates are required to download a copy of their certificate as evidence of having done so. Time: Approximately two hours.
PLAY BY THE RULES (Child Protection, and Harassment and Discrimination (on-line modules).
Candidates are required to enrol in the free Play by the Rules Child Protection and Harassment & Discrimination on-line modules and complete all activities. Once the two (2) modules have been successfully completed, candidates are required to download a copy of their certificates as evidence of having done so. Time: Approximately one hour.
DIVING AUSTRALIA E-LEARNING RESOURCE – DA NCAS LEVEL 1 COACH EDUCATION COURSE
Candidates are required to complete all components of the Diving Australia E-Learning Resource – DA National Coach Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) Level 1 Coach Education Course. Coaches will be required to apply for a receive a log-in and password to access the course. Contact vbeddoe@diving.asn.au for log in registration.
The components of this course include:
- Understanding Your Foundation Level Divers
- Developing Foundation Level Technical Skills
- Developing Foundation Level Physical Capacities
- The Level 1 Coach in Action
Once the tasks have been successfully completed, candidates are required to download a copy of their certificate as evidence of having done so. Time: Approximately two hours.
Complete the ASADA Anti-Doping Level 1 Certification – via completion of the ASADA Anti-doping Level 1 on-line course
Complete the Keeping Sport Honest Certification – attained by the completion of the National Integrity of Sport Unit’s Keeping Sport Honest on-line anti match fixing course
Course participants will also need to have/apply for:
- A current WA Working with Children Check
- Completed First Aid training before becoming accredited; and
- Sign the DA Coaches Code of Ethics document (receive once registered).
