Hains Earns World Junior Selection
Published Tue 19 Jun 2018
WA diver Nikita Hains has earned selection for Australia’s Junior World Championships team to contest next month’s competition in Kiev, Ukraine.
Hains booked her ticket after winning the Girls Junior A Platform final at the recent elite junior championships in Hobart.
Competing at her final championships as a junior, Hains recorded a strong win over a talented young field to earn selection in Australia’s 16-strong representative squad.
Her score of 432.00 was well clear of Victorian Ashleigh Meneses (374.50) and Queensland’s Mackenzie Bowell 367.55).
The highlight of her final success came with her fifth round armstand, back double somersault with one and half twist, which scored 72.00 points. It was comfortably the highest scoring dive of the competition.
In the Ukraine, Hains will contest the 10m Platform and will also partner AnnaRose Keating in the 10m Platform Synchro.
In the Girls B 1m final in Hobart, Western Australian athletes Zoe Langtry and Chelsea Bosch both gave strong performances to finish fourth and fifth respectively.
Langtry with 391.90, was only just shy of third place whilst Bosch recorded a total of 368.95. The competition was won by Queensland’s Kiarra Milligan on 419.00 points.
The World Junior Diving Championships will be held in Kiev from July 23-29.
