Floreat resident Hayley Galvin reaches new heights at Australian Age Diving Championships

FLOREAT resident Hayley Galvin made a splash in April at the 2019 Australian Age Diving Championships and was named champion diver for her age.
The 14-year-old Iona Presentation College student reached new heights and now holds a sporting reputation as one of the best amateur divers in Australia for the 14 and 15 year old category.
Galvin was 1st in the Girls 14 and 15 age group at the competition in categories 1m Springboard, 3m Springboard and Platform.
“I was so happy – I’ve been in Elite for a while where it was harder to win,” she said.
She has trained for almost four years with Diving WA alongside coach Mike Tinley.
“I train around eight to 10 hours a week – I used to train 24 hours a week when I was in Elite, but now it’s great I can find time to do other things I enjoy,” she said.
“I like the feeling of being in the air – it kind of feels like you’re flying.”
The Year Nine student said she was unsure whether she would pursue diving as a professional career, but she would one day love to judge international diving competitions.
