Diving WA 2023 Annual Awards
Published Tue 28 Nov 2023
The 2023 Diving WA Annual Awards took place over the weekend at the Rendezvous Hotel in Scarborough, with this occasion celebrating the successes of Diving WA’s members over the past year.
Among the many acknowledgements were the State Age team that travelled to Sydney in April for the 2023 Australian Age Diving Championships, the State Junior Elite team that travelled to Adelaide in July for the 2023 Australian Elite Junior Championships, the State Open Champions & National Skills Final. Many Individual successes were celebrated during the awards, including Eliza Cole and Sarah Watson’s phenomenal success and medal haul, in the World Aquatics Masters Diving Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, in August.
Maddison Keeney won the Diving WA Diver of the Year Award, in acknowledgement of Maddie’s many internationals, 2023 World Championships, and 2022 Commonwealth successes.
Diving WA celebrated the induction of Eliza Cole and Kim Hynynen-Furler as Diving WA Life Members.
The event was particularly animated toward the end as a quiz had our members, particularly the younger ones, jumping out of their seats to answer questions. The athletes were so keen to get their hands on a t-shirt prize, their hands shot up before the question was asked! Their competitive streak was in full swing, causing lots of laughter!
The big prize of the Awards Breakfast was two tickets to see PINK in March 2024 at Optus Stadium, kindly donated by our partners VenuesWest. A PINK song was played and stopped abruptly. The winner had to sing the remaining lyrics of the song, word for word - no mistakes. Amelia Dunford’s quick arm reflexes meant she was the first to sing the lyrics and consequently took out the prize. Congratulations Amelia!
The Diving WA Annual Awards Breakfast was a great opportunity for our members to dress up and socialize with the event resulting in a big success. For those of you who could not be with us this year, we really look forward to you joining us next year.
