COVID-19 Update - 19.3.20
Published Thu 19 Mar 2020
To all members,
At last night’s Board Meeting we made the decision to POSTPONE this weekend’s Level 1 Coaching Course to a later date (TBD) and CANCEL the DWA Meet #1 which was scheduled for the 28th/29th March.
The health and safety of our members is our highest priority.
Refunds will be offered to those who had registered for the course and the DWA Meet #1 and they will be contacted directly in the very near future.
Further decisions regarding competitions in May will be made at the April Board Meeting.
We are still working closely with VenuesWest regarding the evolving situation at HBF Stadium and training will continue as usual for now.
We are also putting additional measures in place EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY to deal with the current and future situations:
Athletes
- Athletes to bring two towels to training – one for pool use i.e. drying themselves and one for dryland use i.e. on mats (ideally with a distinct difference in sides e.g. upside and downside)
Dryland Cleaning
- Gym wipes and sprays are now in the dryland for athletes to wipe down mats after each use.
- Cleaners are being engaged to give the mats a thorough wipe down on a daily basis.
- Hand sanitiser will soon be installed on the wall near the stairs to the grandstand for athletes to access.
Programs
- We will continue to follow VenuesWest guidance and advice regarding access to the pool.
- Alternate training plans have been drafted should the number of people allowed to gather together continues to decrease and it is still safe for classes to operate.
- This would involve shortening hours of some sessions to limit the number of athletes on pool deck/in dryland at any one time.
- Coaches have begun drafting programs to provide at-home training for athletes in the event of a full shutdown or isolation period.
Ultimately, if we do go into a shutdown we still want to provide services for our members that allows them to maintain a level of fitness, and also retain a sense of community during what is a difficult time.
If the pool is shutdown we will not be charging term or monthly fees.
A reminder also, in line with the Diving Australia recommendations that:
- The decision to attend training must be an individual decision for an athlete and his/her family (and communicated as such).
- If you, your child or another member of your household are sick, please DO NOT come to training.
- When conducting training, every athlete and coach should strive to be at least 1.5 metres away from each other, but preferably 2. Eg, bags should be placed 2m apart.
- Chamois and water bottles should not be shared; nor should they be touched by anyone other than their owner.
- All other health directives, such as regular handwashing, sneezing/coughing into the crook of one’s elbow or a tissue which is immediately binned should also be followed.
- Any suspected or proven COVID-19 infection should also be reported to Diving WA as a matter of urgency so that other steps can be taken quickly.
We appreciate this is a difficult and uncertain time, but as a community we will work through these changes and always have our members safety as the highest priority.
If you have any further queries or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me on (08) 6424 9090.
Regards,
Steven Rose
