Bronzed West Aussies

Published Wed 24 May 2017

Tamara Irvine and Nikita Hains have claimed Bronze in the Women’s Platform Synchro Final at the 2017 Australian Open Championships in Sydney.

The girls were right in contention for the Silver going into the final dive, but were edged out by Emily Meaney (QLD) and Brittany O’Brien (NSW). Australian Platform Queen Melissa Wu (NSW) partnered with Taneka Kovchenko (SA) to take out the Gold Medal.

Irvine capped off an extremely busy day 2 for herself by scrapping into the final of the Women’s 3m Springboard. Maddison Keeney was again strong and qualified in first position with a score of 344.40. Irvine finished just 0.65 points ahead of her opponents to qualify in 12th position. The final will be held on Friday.

Day 3 will be another busy day for the West Aussie’s, with pocket dynamos Jorja McCall and Zoe Langtry set to get their first taste of Open Championship action, alongside Maddison Keeney in the Women’s 1m Springboard. Keeney will then pair up with Dominic Bedggood (QLD) in the Mixed 3m Synchro, before Teju Williamson and Nikita Hains close out the day in the Women’s Platform Final.
