A BASSENDEAN diving duo has capped off a successful 2017 Australian Elite Junior Championships with national selection.

Second-year divers Zoe Langtry and Chelsea Bosch competed against the best divers across Australia at HBF Stadium from July 7 to 9 and were selected onto the national junior diving squad.

Zoe won the Girls Junior B Platform event and the most outstanding new talent award.

WA had 17 representatives at the championships and took home two gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Diving WA chief executive Steven Rose said the duo’s selection matched last year’s representation on the national squad.

“It is fantastic for them to obviously make the squad which was based on their results at the 2017 Australian Elite Junior Championships,” he said.

“Both of them have been diving for less than two years so for them to already make the national junior squad is a magnificent result.

“To do that in your home crowd even better.

“A couple of the other girls won some medals and had a lot of personal bests.”

Rose said while international competitions were yet to be confirmed, he expected the girls to be competitive.

“The two girls are still very young and starting out,” he said.

“I suppose they are now following in the footsteps of WA’s Maddison Keeney who won gold just the other day in the FINA World Championships in Budapest.”

Rose said diving had been growing in the state over time.

“Certainly in the last two years we have grown significantly…so, we have grown our membership by 116 per cent in the last two years,” he said.

“We have been through some major changes over the last two years and we are certainly starting to see that come to fruition now and it has been very positive along the way and we are hoping to continue that trend going forward.”
