$2 million secured for Dryland Diving Training Centre

Published Mon 03 Aug 2020

Through the State Government and VenuesWest, Diving WA has been approved $2 million for a standalone Dryland Training Centre at HBF Stadium, Mt Claremont.

The approved funds was announced yesterday by Premier Mark McGowan, as part of State Government’s $300 million investment into sport and community infrastructure.

The centre will build off a feasibility study and concept plan which was developed in 2015, and will be a FINA international standard training centre consisting of springboards, trampolines, harnesses, foam pit, weights area, sprung floor and a video replay system.

Diving WA CEO Steven Rose said that, “this is fantastic news for the sport of Diving in WA. This will expand on the current equipment and training environment we have access to at HBF Stadium.”

“Athletes are able to get 10 times more repetitions in the dryland than in the water and this is a crucial training environment for the athletes.”

“This training centre will bring the facility up to an international standard and open additional opportunities for training camps and events in the future. These facilities will support athletes to remain in WA longer as they continue working towards their Commonwealth and Olympic Games dreams”

“We thank the State Government and VenuesWest for their investment and continued support for Diving”.

The site for the centre will be finalised in the coming months, with works to then begin and an expected completion by early 2022.
