Dive Into Success: Understanding the Diving Australia Levels Program Run by Diving WA
The Diving Australia Levels Program is a structured pathway that takes aspiring divers on a journey from beginner to club-level proficiency. With seven levels to conquer, these levels are perfect for anyone starting their diving adventure.
Designed with input from school, club, international and Olympic level coaches, the program helps participants master essential techniques, including jumps, falls, and dives from poolside and diving boards.
Kids will combine elements of trampolining, gymnastics, tumbling, swimming and acrobatics, in wet and dry training to give them the full diving experience.
Ideal for kids 6-14 years of age.
What Should You Pack for a Diving Lesson?
Prepare for a splash-filled session with these essentials:
Required
- Swimwear - one piece preffered
- Sports shoes
- T Shirts & shorts/ tights
- Towel
- Water Bottle
Important: Goggles are not allowed during lessons, as they can pose a safety risk during head-first entries.
A Glimpse Inside a Diving Lesson
Diving lessons combine structured coaching with plenty of fun. Qualified instructors guide groups through a variety of activities designed to develop skills in an engaging way.
While the sport requires discipline, the emphasis remains on enjoyment. You might notice your child practicing movements or exercises that don’t seem directly tied to their current level—these are often stepping stones for future skills or activities designed to keep lessons exciting.
Coaches also provide hands-on support when necessary, helping participants understand proper techniques or ensuring safe water entry. If you have any questions about this, don’t hesitate to discuss them with the coach.
How Long Does It Take to Earn a Level?
Every child progresses at their own pace, depending on their experience, confidence, and consistency. Some children—especially those with backgrounds in gymnastics, or similar activities—may advance quickly due to transferable skills.
The key focus is ensuring that each child feels supported, enjoys the learning process, and develops at a rate that helps them reach their full potential. If you’re curious about your child’s progress, their coach will be happy to provide insight.
Essential Swimming Skills for Diving
To join a diving class, participants need to be able to swim at least 25 meters unaided in water deeper than 3 meters, without using goggles.
1. Do you provide flotation aids?
No, participants are expected to dive without them.
2. Can my child wear goggles?
Goggles are not permitted for safety reasons.
Boosting Your Child’s Diving Potential
Diving isn’t just about being in the pool. Activities like gymnastics, trampolining, dance, and flexibility training can significantly enhance diving skills. These disciplines improve strength, balance, and coordination—all essential for mastering dives.
Encourage your child to explore these complementary activities alongside their diving lessons to accelerate their progress.
What Comes After Level 7?
Once your child completes Level 7, they will be ready to move into a DWA State squad that can develop their skills further or prepare them for diving events.
