Diving WA is delivering a Level 1 Coaching Course for anyone who is interested in becoming a Diving Coach.

The Course will be held at the new Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) building the at the following times:

FRIDAY 26 June 5pm-8pm

SATURDAY 27 June 8am - 4pm 

SUNDAY 28 June 9am - 12pm

​Pool and dryland sessions will be conducted in HBF Stadium.

The course fee is $125  (gst inc) and includes:
- Cost of pool and equipment hire  

- Cost of compulsory text

- NCAS accreditation fee

- Presenter fees

- 2 additional workshops after the course to complement the coaching course (may include trampolineing, strength and conditioning etc)

COURSE REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPANTS:

- All participants must be current, financial coaching members of Diving Australia Inc.

- Participants must comply with the relevant state/territory child protection legislation for child related employment – Working with Children Check.

- Participants should have a level of fitness which enables them to physically complete all the practical sessions included in this course. Candidates who, for medical reasons, are unable to carry out physical elements of the course may be granted restricted accreditation allowing them to coach with assistance for physical work.

- A minimum of 6 participants is required for each course.

- It is mandatory for all participants to successfully complete a Beginning Coaching general principles certificate and Play by the Rules certificate for “Discrimination and Harassment” and “Child Protection” prior to accreditation.

- Participants are required to hold a current first aid certificate from an approved provider before Level 1 accreditation will be awarded. The competencies to be included in the first aid course are: Apply Emergency Action Principles; Perform Expired Air Resuscitation; Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation; Provide Care for Breathing Emergencies; Provide Care for Cardiac Emergencies; Provide Care for Shock; Provide Care for Bleeding (including wounds); Provide Care for Musculoskeletal Injuries.

On completion of this training course, the Level 1 diving coach will be able to:
- Coach basic diving skills through progressive skills and exercises
- Implement appropriate diving etiquette
- Provide safe training environment and have an understanding of their legal responsibilities
- Implement effective warm up and cool down sessions and develop diver flexibility and general athlete strength programs
- Integrate basic strength and conditioning exercises into training program
- Conduct well organised daily training sessions for beginner divers
- Coach principles of core stability and body alignment
- Coach springboard and platform take-offs
- Coach sequence of movement for springboard and platform approach
- Coach aerial positions – straight, tuck and pike
- Coach visual spotting
- Coach entries
- Coach five basic dives
- Safely use dry land equipment as training aid to coach basic diving techniques.
